3D Printing in HK Construction Industry: Rapidly Produced Signage for 'On Lai Court'

In Hong Kong, construction projects are often highly time-sensitive. We were honoured to collaborate with Unistress Building Construction Limited on the new 'On Lai Court' housing estate, located in the Anderson Road development area of Kwun Tong. Using our professional 3D printing technology, we produced large-scale entrance signage in under three working days, demonstrating how technology can revolutionise construction efficiency.

Racing Against Time

Although this signage was for temporary use, the client's quality requirements remained uncompromising. This project presented two main challenges: an extremely short delivery deadline and the need for the finished product to be durable enough to withstand the outdoor environment.

An Efficient Project Process from Design to Installation

1. Same-Day 3D Modeling: Upon receiving the floor plan, our designer immediately created a 3D model based on the precise dimensions specified in the drawings. The entire sign model measured 2960mm x 400mm x 100mm, with meticulous attention given to every detail. Upon completion, we promptly submitted the 3D file to the client for confirmation, ensuring the design perfectly met their expectations.
   

   

   
   

2. High-Precision SLA Printing Technology: Upon client approval, we utilised high-precision SLA 3D printing technology combined with a high-quality white resin. SLA technology ensures a smooth and detailed surface finish, laying a perfect foundation for subsequent colouring and finishing processes.
   

3. Professional Post-Processing & Outdoor Protection: After printing, in addition to routine processes like surface polishing, we accounted for the unique demands of outdoor use. Our team applied a specialised UV-resistant coating to the signage, which effectively prevents material degradation and discolouration from sun exposure. This process ensures the 3D-printed signage is exceptionally durable in an outdoor environment.
   

   

   
   

4. Precise Colour Matching & Assembly: For the colouring, we strictly followed the colour code specified in the design drawings, carefully mixing an elegant tan to perfectly realize the intended design aesthetic. The final installation phase was also challenging. Because Chinese characters are composed of multiple independent strokes, each stroke needed to be precisely positioned and carefully mounted onto the wall. Fortunately, thanks to our team's extensive experience and meticulous approach, the 3D-printed signage was installed successfully.

The final product was met with great satisfaction from both the client and our team. Even site staff were seen taking photos, with one remarking, "The complex finally feels complete now that the sign is up!" This is the greatest affirmation of our work.
